Meet John Bokehgo

A master of filmmaking

What I do…

“I am a socially engaged filmmaker and through my film production studio (Studio Bokehgo) I make films for people and projects that look to make the world a better place.”

Growing up I wanted to become…

“An artist. And I'm really happy I am achieving that in an artform that I love.”

The thing that surprised me most about my career…

“That you do not need to go to an expensive film school, you really can make the dream happen through determination, positivity and hard work. I am entirely self taught, and started out with a £200 camera nearly 10 years ago (most people's phones are a higher spec than that camera!). But through a determination to shine a spotlight on important stories and a love for the art form of film, I now have a studio that has created thousands of films for projects we believe in and I support so many freelancers through work opportunities too.”

The best advice anyone ever gave me…

"I have been honoured to receive wisdom from so many people through my artform, which is an artform of looking and listening. And in particular a lot of my work is looking at the power of our own authenticity in telling stories. An extremely powerful piece of advice I have received is:

"Authenticity is not a destination but a daily practice—a commitment to honouring our truth, setting healthy boundaries, and cultivating self-mastery in every interaction." - Lola Jane Thorne"
